"Ladies and Gentlemen of the Graduating Class of 2010, Welcome to Stanford University's Commencement Ceremony!"
I looked over to Larry and Andrea, two of my closest friends, to see how they felt about the ceremony. To my amusement, Larry fell asleep in his chair after getting his deploma. Andrea, on the other hand, waved back and smiled in happiness.
June 24th, 2010. It all came down to this. Eighteen years total of education, and after today it will all be over. The feeling, incredible. The atmosphere, exciting. The ceremony? Boring.
Honestly, I was looking more ahead to July 2nd through 5th, when the CMS Class of 2002 would meet again. The eighth year reunion. Okay, so a middle school reunion sounds cheesy. But to be honest, I have never met so many great people since that year, and I was excited about this.
The event was carefully planned for about two years. It was set to be at Treasure Island, Las Vegas. The 15th and 16th floor was to be rented out for attendees, with the 17th floor rented for the reunion and Fourth of July party. The entrance fee was hefty at $600 for the party attendee, and $400 for each guest, but that included the airplane tickets, hotel room, car, a small fee for party supplies, and other items.
I logged on to my website and talked to the other members about the details of it, from who registered to attend to what time it would start. Over the past years the website evolved from a small picture trading site with a computer store to a pretty big community site. It seems as if Tim and Vivi got the invitation and decided to attend. The total count so far was eighty-nine people accepting, three declining due to money problems, and twenty still unanswered.
I then showered and dressed up to prepare for the Graduation Party that night. I drove to the gas station for gas and air, then went to the Hyatt to register for attendance. The party itself was pretty much lifeless, as most people decided to have their own parties and the music they had here wasn't too great. I drove home unhappily.
At my small but comfortable apartment, I made a few phone calls to my relatives and friends to talk about graduation and the reunion, then it was off to bed for me. I didn't want to be too tired for my long flight to visit my parents in the Philippines tomorrow.
